Anatomy of Insanity draws attention to the gendered views of “insanity,” with men’s mental health issues treated with more complexity and women’s linked solely to their female anatomy or simply their identity as women - and all the assumptions that come with it. This book resembles a physician’s portfolio and includes illustrations of Victorian trade cuts, advertisements, anatomical drawings, and text from authentic patient records from the McLean Mental Hospital from the early 1800s.
